Email Notifications in Fedora Forge
|
DRAFT DOCUMENTATION: This documentation is currently in draft form and may not be fully tested and correct. Please verify all procedures before use and report any issues or inaccuracies. |
Purpose
This document provides guidance on how to enable and configure email notifications in Fedora Forge. Email notifications help you stay informed about activities in repositories and organizations you’re interested in.
Scope
This guide is intended for all Fedora Project contributors and users who want to receive email notifications about repository activities, issues, pull requests, and other events on Fedora Forge.
Important: Email Notifications are Disabled by Default
|
Email notifications are disabled by default for all users on Fedora Forge. You must explicitly enable them in your user settings if you wish to receive email notifications. |
Even if you watch repositories or are a member of an organization, you will not receive any email notifications unless you first enable them in your account settings.
Enabling Email Notifications
To enable email notifications for your Fedora Forge account:
-
Log into Fedora Forge using your Fedora Account.
 -
Click on your profile picture/icon in the top-right corner.
 -
Select "Settings" from the dropdown menu.
 -
In the left-hand navigation sidebar, click on "Account".
 -
Scroll down to the "Email Notifications" section.
 -
Check the box next to "Enable email notifications".
 -
Click "Update Settings" to save your changes.

|
After enabling email notifications, you will start receiving emails based on your watching preferences. |
How Watching Works with Email Notifications
Once email notifications are enabled, Fedora Forge will send you emails based on what repositories and activities you’re watching. There are several levels of watching:
Managing Your Email Notification Preferences
You can control when and how you receive email notifications:
Notification Settings
In your user settings, you can configure:
-
Enable email notifications: Master toggle to enable or disable all email notifications
 -
Email on my own actions: By default, you won’t receive emails for actions you perform yourself (like commenting on your own issues). Enable this if you want to receive emails for your own actions.
 -
Send all emails to primary email: All notification emails will be sent to your primary email address

Unsubscribing from Specific Threads
If you’re receiving notifications for a specific issue or pull request that you no longer want to follow:
-
Navigate to the issue or pull request page
 -
Click the "Unsubscribe" button in the sidebar (if you’re currently subscribed)

This will stop notifications for that specific thread without affecting your other watching preferences.
