Fedora Chat Acceptable Use Policy

This Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) outlines the guidelines and expectations for users of Fedora Chat, a hosted Matrix chat service. By using this service, you agree to adhere to the principles set forth in this document.

Purpose

Fedora Chat is provided to facilitate communication, collaboration, and community building within the Fedora Project. It is intended for activities related to the Fedora Project, including but not limited to discussions, technical support, project coordination, and community events.

Acceptable Use

Users are expected to use Fedora Chat in a manner that is respectful, constructive, and aligned with the values of the Fedora Project. Acceptable use includes:

  • Engaging in discussions related to Fedora Project activities.

  • Sharing information, resources, and insights relevant to the Fedora Project.

  • Collaborating on projects and initiatives.

  • Providing and receiving technical assistance related to Fedora Linux and related technologies.

  • Participating in community events and discussions.

  • Foster community and provide a space for Fedora users and contributors to connect and socialize.

Prohibited Conduct

The following activities are strictly prohibited on Fedora Chat:

  • Violation of the Fedora Code of Conduct: All users must adhere to the Fedora Code of Conduct. Any behavior that violates this code, including harassment, discrimination, hate speech, or personal attacks, is not permitted.

  • Harmful Content: Posting or sharing content that is obscene, defamatory, threatening, or incites violence.

  • Spamming and Unsolicited Commercial Content: Sending unsolicited messages, advertisements, or promotional materials.

  • Privacy Violations: Attempting to access or disclose private information of other users without their explicit consent. Users should be aware of the Fedora Privacy Policy.

  • Disruption of Service: Any activity that disrupts the normal operation of the server, including but not limited to Denial of Service (DoS) attacks, introducing viruses or other malicious code, or excessive resource consumption that negatively impacts other users.

  • Impersonation: Impersonating another person or entity.

  • Creation of Multiple Accounts for Abuse: Creating multiple accounts with the intent to evade moderation, bypass bans, or engage in disruptive behavior.

Data Privacy

The Fedora Project is committed to protecting the privacy of its users. All data collected and processed in Fedora Chat will be handled in accordance with the Fedora Privacy Policy. Users are encouraged to review this policy to understand how their data is collected, used, and protected.

Moderation and Enforcement

The Fedora Project reserves the right to moderate content and user behavior in Fedora Chat to ensure compliance with this AUP and the Fedora Code of Conduct. Actions that may be taken in response to violations include, but are not limited to:

  • Issuing warnings.

  • Temporary suspension of access.

  • Permanent ban from the service.

  • Reporting illegal activities to relevant authorities.

Reporting Violations

If you encounter any content or behavior in Fedora Chat rooms that you believe violates this AUP or the Fedora Code of Conduct, please report using the report feature in your Matrix client interface or follow the documented Fedora Project CoC violation reporting procedure.

Changes to this Policy

This AUP may be updated from time to time to reflect changes in technology, community needs, or legal requirements. Continued use of Fedora Chat after such modifications constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
